Our FAQ section is where you can find further helpful information on all matters related to Drivalia van rental.
1. Fuel
Drivalia van rentals operate a level-to-level policy. Our vehicles must be returned with the same level of fuel provided at the start of hire.
If you return the vehicle with less fuel than was provided, you will be charged £3.00 per litre for the missing fuel plus a re-fuelling charge of £9.50. All charges are subject to VAT.
*No refund for any fuel at the end of the rental.
2. Mileage allowance
Drivalia have mileage allowances in place for van hire reservations, our generous allowance is almost double the average van miles driven per annum* (*source gov.uk 2021, private & business miles).
UK van bookings free mileage allowance included in your rental.
1-2 days: 150 per day.
3-6 days: 100 per day.
7 days or more: 500 weekly allowance.
If you exceed these allowances you will be charged at 20p per mile (for example, 50 extra miles driven = £10.00).
3. How do I receive my booking confirmation?
You will be sent an email shortly after making your reservation to the email address supplied when your booking was made. If you do not receive your confirmation within 48 hours of making your reservation please contact uk.reservations@drivalia.com.
4. What is the maximum number of points I can have on my driver’s licence to hire?
Minor offences such as speeding and traffic signals are acceptable up to a maximum of 6 points. Unfortunately, we are unable to hire to you if you have had an at-fault accident or claim in the past 36 months.
Please call us if you have any bans or convictions in the last 5 years.
5. I’m arriving at an airport, how do I collect my vehicle?
Pick-up procedure will be contained on your rental confirmation; if you have any queries whatsoever please contact us at 0044 (0)151 515 3869.
6. What if I’m going to be late?
If you know you may miss the start of your hire, please contact the branch as soon as possible to let them know or ideally log on to: https://www.drivalia.co.uk/manage/index.php/home
Alternatively, from 8 am – 6 pm, call our support team on 0203 657 6045.
We can only hold a vehicle for you for a limited amount of time, especially during busy periods. If you are due to collect before 10 PM but arrive after, then an out-of-hours fee will be added to your hire.
7. Where do I drop off my vehicle at the end of the hire?
Please drop off your rental vehicle at the address on your booking voucher. You can find all our branch locations here with local telephone numbers included.
8. Can I pay for my rental in cash?
Drivalia DO NOT accept cash at any branch. All payments must be made by card.
9. Do you accept both credit and debit cards at your branches?
Yes. We accept all major Credit Cards at our Branches. If you have a debit card please call Drivalia customer services or reservations to discuss your options if you need more information.
We do not accept virtual credit cards or cards without a visible card number.
10. What documents will I need to bring?
– Your driver’s licence *
– credit/ debit card in the driver’s name.
– utility bill and a bank statement which shows incoming funds or proof of income, (for UK residents) which must be dated within the last 3 months. Business/company hires must have proof of business.
– Your passport (for non-UK residents).
– Your booking confirmation (digital or printed).
* Hirers with a GB Driver’s Licence must also provide a “Licence Check Code”. Click here for more information.
11. Is there a deposit payable?
A zero deposit option is available if excess protection is taken out. These limit your liability in the event of any damage that may occur. UK hirers may be required to agree to and pass a credit – address check.
Drivalia vans insurance does not cover contents and multi-drop uses.
Excess reduction on vans starts from just £11 per day for longer rentals, additional excess packages are available at the point of hire, which the staff will be happy to discuss.
If no waiver package is purchased a deposit must be made. Deposits can only be made with the hirer’s credit card at £1,500 pre-authorisation.

12. Can I take the vehicle out of the UK?
ONLY DRIVALIA SMALLER VAN GROUPS ARE ALLOWED – UPTO SWB vans sizes.
All hires that will travel out of the UK must inform Drivalia in advance of travel at least 48 hours before as additional travel documentation is required and must be processed.
Additional charges do apply for international usage/insurance and excess mileage outside UK Mainland.
Hirers can take their hire vehicle overseas. To avoid delay, please contact us in advance to allow us time to supply the required VE103b document. Green card cover fee and overseas charges apply if travelling to Europe, as well as between the UK and Republic of Ireland.
A cross border fee will be applied if you travel from Mainland UK to Northern Ireland or from Northern Ireland to the Republic of Ireland.
Drivalia provides roadside assistance, but this extends to UK mainland only.
Free roadside assistance is not included when taking the vehicle to locations off the UK Mainland. Customers will be liable for any recovery and roadside assistance costs incurred when the vehicle is off the UK Mainland. Hirers must provide their own “full European breakdown cover” which must be produced at point of collection of your hire.
Only small vans are permitted to travel out of the UK i.e. Citroen Berlingo and Ford Transit Custom up to short wheel base.
** Outside mainland UK classed as Offshore Islands, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and mainland Europe
It will be the responsibility of the hirer to get the vehicle repatriated back to the mainland UK. Please call for further information – 0151 515 3869.
13. I cannot find my driving licence, can I still hire?
Yes, we will need a government-issued ID (such as a passport, along with the ID stated above) and will need to contact the DVLA to check your licence details (there is a charge for this service).
14. Can I add additional drivers?
Yes, more than one person can drive the rental vehicle; the additional driver needs to be present when collecting the vehicle.
All subsequent extra drivers must also adhere to our general policy and provide the same ID criteria; you must be at least 23 years of age and have held a full driving licence for 2 years or more.
15. After Rental
How do I make a complaint?
You can make a complaint via drivalia.co.uk and accessing the Manage My Booking portal. Once you have entered your booking reference and name you will be taken into your booking details. Select ‘Customer Service’ from the menu on the left of the page.
What if there are outstanding charges on the account?
Should there be outstanding charges within your booking, we will pass the account to our debt recovery company and you will be liable to pay us a £20 admin fee, all recovery charges and legal fees.
What happens if the rental vehicle is damaged?
Loss of, or damage to, the vehicle and/or accessories caused by driver abuse, negligence or breach of contract. In these circumstances you will be responsible to pay the full amount of the damage, regardless of the excess reduction package purchased.
If the hirer is found to be negligent in the use of the vehicle and the damage is beyond viable repair, Drivalia will charge for the full value of the vehicle.
